The Association of Croydon Governors
Summer Term Network Meeting for Croydon Governors
Thursday 26th May 2011
7 – 9p.m.
The Nest (new Extended Schools Building) at Parish Church Schools,
Warrington Road, CR0 4BH
7 pm – 9pm (Refreshments will be available)

Many of you may be aware that The Link Governors meetings has had to be cancelled on Thursday 26th May, while the LA  gather together  views from chairs of governors  regarding the future of governor training.

The ACG would like to give all governors the opportunity to discuss what  kind of service they would like to see in Croydon in the future. The Association would then ensure that all the views would be disseminated  to the LA.

There will also be the opportunity to discuss other  issues of concern and share areas of good practice with colleagues.

The Association has a brand new website :  www.theacg.btck.co.uk, and we are looking for some interesting articles from governors to publish as well as collecting useful  up to the minute news.
Please email

lesley.stout@blueyonder.co.uk

if you would like to attend on 26th May 2011.

All Change for Croydon Governors

Wednesday 20th October 2010

The Nest (new Extended Schools Building) at Parish Church Schools,
Warrington Road, CR0 4BH

7 pm – 9pm (Refreshments will be available)

There are many changes ahead for us all after an unsettled period of distress and confusion over Building Schools for the Future, bulge classes, the school meal contract and a changing role for the Local Authority; we are aware that governors will have many questions and concerns.

PROGRAMME FOR THE EVENING

7 pm    As you are aware Dave Hill, the Executive Director of Children’s Services, will be leaving Croydon and we have invited him to the start of our meeting to recognise his hard work and the successes that he has made during his time with

7.30 pm  -  Break-out Discussion groups:

  • Appointment of New Executive Director of Children’s Services

We thought you would like the opportunity to informally discuss what qualities and experience you would like to see in the new Director. What will be their key challenges? The Association has been asked to nominate a member to sit on the selection panel and although this does not mean we will have voting rights – that is entirely up to our Councillors – we will be able to speak with the voice of governors if we know what is really important to you.

  • Governor Services 2011

Most governors were saddened and dismayed to learn that Governor Services were to be replaced by an external company for the next two terms.   This will be your opportunity to meet with other Croydon governors and explore ‘What services do we need in Croydon to support our role in schools at a local level’.  I’m sure you have already thought about this and have some concerns about the future of governor support.  As your local association we think it is important that we can communicate your views to the appropriate level and ensure that what we receive meets our needs.

  • 8.30 pm  -  Feedback from Committees and meetings attended by members representing Croydon Governors:

NGA London Regional Meeting 18th October: Academies
